our first monday…

Posted in Uncategorized on June 23, 2009 by Eric

Our first monday after the smoking ban and all went well.  We had our slow moments but all in all it was a normal monday.  Thanks to the new faces and regular ones too.  I think people are getting used to the smoking issues since a lot of other cities already had it in place.  I personally have enjoyed the last few nights of going home and not smelling like smoke!  Good luck to every place in rowlett that thought they had to depend on smoking to bring in business.  I think I have learned one thing at owning a bar in rowlett, competition is a good thing.  If we can all work together I think we can all survive.  We have a good relationship with most of the bars in rowlett and we seem to benefit from that.  The hate that splits has shown towards us is unfortunate, but in these economic times desperation sometimes makes people cross the line, I feel sorry for that business mindset but learned that that way of doing business is how i never want to be.  Well come out tonight and watch the rangers, tomorrow is a singer songwriter night that use to be on thursday but we swtched to wednesday (momma didnt raise no fool, having a band night on the same night as concert on the lake is a struggle, so we switched to wednesdays instead).  There is some amazing talent that comes out to showcase there songwriting abilities.  Saturday will be Jd cobb and the bad behavior band.   Look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces.  See you soon.

Its here, thinking positive about the bright future…

Well its sunday night, almost done with day two of the smoking ordinance.  Glad to see so many people out and about saturday night and the band, Luau larry and the snow crabs were awesome.   Tonight is very slow, everytime we have a slow period it makes me very nervous now.   So looking forward to seeing a lot of new faces soon.  We are not playing around with the ban and taking it very seriously, no breaking of the ordinance or nothing like that.  We have set up some table and chairs for people to sit at outside but just cant take any alcoholic bevs out there.   Tim is one of our new bartenders, him and I have worked together for about 9 years, hes a great asset and am lucky to have him on our team.  Look forward to seeing all of you soon.

June 18th, 2 days to go

Posted in Uncategorized on June 18, 2009 by Eric

So here we are with only two days to go.   Looking forward to meeting lots of new people very soon that support the smoking ban.  My wife will also be very happy as i will not smell like smoke every night I come home.  Very interesting article in the dallas morning news on the approach the enforcement of the mesquite ban.  I am sure Rowlett will not take that approach though.  It was a very hands off basing enforcements on complaints, such as if you are not exactly at the required footage markers.  Any how a great weekend planned, Friday night we will be doing karaoke and also hourly gift certificate and ashtray giveaways.  We will be running a special on smoked sausage (since they have not banned those yet we may keep them around for future special).  Saturday is a band named Luau Larry and the Snow Crabs, they sound like fun and are a great live band.  I cant tell you how much i have both dreaded this day coming and looked forward to it being here.  Hope to keep the old faces and see a lot of new ones soon.  Talk to you guys later.

Where have i been???

Posted in Uncategorized on June 12, 2009 by Eric

Im back sorry for the long absence but it wont happen again.  I have a million excuses about where i have been and why i have not posted but none of them legitimate enough to not have posted for so long.  Anyways where are we at???? The city i guess have educated us in the smoking ban, they dropped off two signs and gave us a copy of the ordinance.  Like i said its pretty cut and dry but I would think that they would want to meet with the small number of businesses that it actually affects to show some good small town relationships between city govt and local business.  However we will be in compliance starting on the 20th and look forward to meeting a lot of you that are waiting for the non smoking to take affect.  One week to go.  So what else has been going on???? Let me know for all you that i will be meeting in a week, what do you like, what dont you like, what can we do better.  Believe me we take all suggestions and see what is within our control and grasp and run with them.  I cant wait for all of you that havent been here yet to come in and see what we offer and for those that do come in to continue providing you with hopefully the small town gathering place that keeps you coming back.  Till then, gotta go fire Joe.

Day 19 since smoking ban passed.

Posted in Uncategorized on May 28, 2009 by Eric

Good thursday evening to everyone.  So heres the deal, smoking ban goes into affect on the 20th of june, as we all know, now the city has said that they will educate businesses that will be affected by the new enforcement of the law.  Like the title says that was 19 days ago.  Now we can all see that its probably not the hardest thing to learn, all the black and white, but if the city says they are going to do something, do we not expect them to keep their word?  Anyways getting to see some positive aspects of the ban.  Actually have been reading some blogs from Chris Kilgore who was a city council member for the ban, so of course i felt strongly a kind of well hate for the man.  However a very intelligent man who speaks very well (guess thats why he is in politics) but kudos to you chris, enjoy your insight.  My daughter turned one yesterday and is having a birthday bash saturday at the house, its a byob (bring your own bottle…lol) if you want to stop by.  Presently working on some things, a corvette show, scrub night for hospital employees, charity golf tournament, weekly who can fire joe better, and follow the mug club.  In the meantime i am going to take my shot at firing Joe.

day 12

Posted in Uncategorized on May 21, 2009 by Eric

Here we are 12 days into the passing of the ban.  The only communication with the city so far has been the fire marshall coming in to lower our occupancy (dont know why they are the ones that originally measured and gave us our occupancy and we havent changed a thing)  who said that it was our 30 day notice before the ban would be enforced.  Tonight is open mic night for singer/songwriters.  Looking forward to this weekend, although weather is gorgeous and its memorial weekend so possibly could be a very slow business weekend.  On the bright side my daughter turns one on the 27th of this month.  I have the most amazing little girl you could ever ask for.  Ill video her and introduce you all to her.  Hope to see you all soon.  Stop by and say hi.  In the meantime, gotta go fire Joe.

Where are all the customers going on Tuesday besides the track?

Posted in Uncategorized on May 20, 2009 by Eric

What a night.  Tuesday is known in the Gigon household as date night.  So we started at pasadas in mesquite, went to primos in garland (what a beautiful place) over to glorias in rockwall and then the THE TRACK.  I know it was a Tuesday night but everywhere was so slow.  Only the second time i have been to primos and heard how packed they were and by the atmoshphere i am not surprised, however they were slow, glorias was dead and so was pasadas.  It made me realize how lucky we are at the track to have such a great customer base.  I am looking forward to expanding that base when the smoking ban takes affect.  Not much news to report other than tonights mug club giveaway and tomorrows open mic night, Friday McKenzie returns for karaoke and saturday is UFC.  Come by and say hi.  In the meantime…thats right, gotta go fire Joe.
